In 2015, BOMA International’s lobbying efforts resulted in a series of historic victories for the commercial real estate industry. The passage of the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 in December included a permanent extension of the 15-year depreciation on qualified leasehold improvements, BOMA’s top tax priority; fixes to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA); and a straight two-year extension of the energy efficiency deduction for commercial buildings.

While these are important victories, there are many issues left unsettled for 2016. The 2016 legislative calendar is hot with issues critical to BOMA International members—now is the time to get involved and get energized! Advocacy is a contact sport: mobilize your grassroots membership, call your legislators, visit their local offices, use your Legislative Action Center and write a letter.
